Washington State Governor Signs Senate Bill 5474 Authorizing Penalty and Cancer Presumption for Fire
On Monday, April 29th, Washington Governor Jay Inslee approved a bill allowing employers to communicate claim decisions. Claim closure notices forwarded by self-insured employers in the state would have the same effect as those sent from the Department of Labor and Industries. Inslee also enacted a bill authorizing a $1,000 civil penalty when an employer reveals information from a workers' compensation claim regarding a mental health condition. In addition, Inslee approved legislation creating a presumption that cancer and other conditions are occupational diseases for fire investigators.
